On Thursday, November 21, 2013, we had our sixth annual fall gathering of liturgical ministers, committee members and volunteers from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Margaret Mary. Sixty-five people attended where the topic this year was “A Look at the Mass.” We were led in bi-lingual evening prayer by Pastor, Msgr. Sean G. Ogle, V.F., our transitional Deacon Christopher R. Heanue, assigned to OLMC for the next two years and permanent Deacon Ruben Mendez.

The English speaking group listened to a talk by Deacon Chris. For the Spanish Group, the speaker was Father Felix Sanchez, Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph’s Parish here in Astoria. Father Felix has served as a priest in Spain and Brazil before coming to the Brooklyn Diocese who loves teaching and working in the parish.

Afterwards the groups reunited as one for coffee and a variety of sweet treats courtesy of Maria Barretta. Here are a few pictures. Pictures are courtesy of Pastor Msgr. Sean G. Ogle, V.F. and Neida C.  Martinez.  Video posted on You Tube.

The Vietnamese Apostolate of the Diocese of Brooklyn has been hosted for many years here at OLMC. On November 24, 2013, the Apostolate celebrated the annual feast day of St Andrew Dun-Lac and the Vietnamese martyrs, their patron saints. The Apostolate Director, Father Peter Nguyen and Father Joe Pham, both Parochial Vicars here at OLMC were joined by Father Vincentius Do of St Rosalia-Regina Pacis Parish in Brooklyn who preached the homily. After Mass, which included honoring the saints with incense, a party featuring lots of karaoke was held in the Mount Carmel Institute. A good time was had by all. Here are a few pictures.  Photos courtesy of Pastor Msgr. Sean G. Ogle, V.F.
